UPC Hosts Dinner and Dancing
If you asked any girl what her ideal date would be, she might say dinner and dancing. Tonight’s your chance guys; the University Program Council (UPC) will hold their quarterly dinner and dancing event tonight night at 7 p.m. in the Foy ballroom.
Everyone is invited to attend, and you don’t even have to bring a dancing partner with you. All you need to bring with you is your appetite and your dancing shoes.
UPC will provide an Italian Buffet for the main course. The Auburn Knights will provide the entertainment for the night. The Auburn Knights are a Big Band music group who were founded in 1930. The Auburn Knights have played with musical greats like, Frank Sinatra, Tom Dorsey and Buddy Rich. The Knights will play swing music all night to entertain the crowd.
This year UPC has decided to hold the dinner and dancing event along with the swing lessons that were given on Nov. 5.
Gayatri Nayak, the director of fine arts said, “Every year, we have the event, and many times we found that not many of the attendee’s know how to swing dance. So, this year, we put out the workshop, to not only help people learn the basics of the art form, but also to gear them up for Dinner and Dancing and in turn increase participation on the dance floor.â€?
The dress attire is semiformal, but of course dancers are welcome to wear whatever makes them feel comfortable. UPC will be charging $5 for students and $8 for non-students.
“I would love to go to dinner and dancing,� said senior, Ann Thames, “it’s just trying to drag my boyfriend there that may take some convincing.�
“I think most women like the idea of dinner and dancing because it reminds them of old Hollywood movies from the ‘40s and ‘50s. It’s very Audrey Hepburnesque,� said Thames.
Maggie Slovonic, a dance instructor, said, “I have seen a spike of interest in ballroom dancing in the past couple of years. A lot of instructors think it is because of the hit television show, “Dancing with the Stars�. People watch ordinary celebrities, with no dancing background, put on these wonderful performances each week on the show. What people don’t understand is that these celebrities do nothing but dance ‘round the clock with a trained professional.�
Dinner and dancing is a great way to show off your dancing movies and enjoy a delicious Italian buffet.
