Swing Dancing Anyone?
Would you like to dance?
Auburn University featured a night of free dancing to the Auburn area. On Sunday, Nov. 5 from 2-4 p.m., Foy Student Union offered free swing dancing lessons for anyone to attend.
Lessons were open to Auburn students, as well as anyone in the Auburn community. Auburn resident Elizabeth Rodgers and her son Sam, a senior at Auburn High School, went and learned how to break it down on the dance floor.
“We learned four basic moves of swing dancing, said Sam Rodgers. “It lasted about an hour and a half. We learned the style of dancing called the “West Coast Swing and had practice time after, said Rodgers.
“I did this so I could have fun with my mom and learn something new, said Rodgers. “I learned a lot about dancing and the instruction of swing dancing. I also think it’s a great way to impress girls!
Foy Student Union along with University Program Council also held its quarterly dinner and dance event on Friday, Nov. 10 in the Foy Ballroom. This workshop was held for anyone to come and have fun learning how to swing dance.
Free swing dancing lessons are also held at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center on 222 East Drake Avenue. Lessons are held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday nights and range from beginner level to advanced level.
The community center also hosts a variety of programs besides swing dancing, including ballroom dancing, theatre, and feature regional artist and traveling exhibitions.
