Lifetime Wellness & Fitness Challenge 2007 Hits Auburn
Auburn University has partnered with the Student Activities Center to present “AU Lifetime Wellness – Fitness Challenge 2007.
The 12-week program will try to motivate unfit or unhappy people to reach attainable fitness goals by changing behaviors in their everyday life to maintain a healthier lifestyle.
From January 16th to April 22nd, two-person teams will work together to support and motivate each other to lose weight, eat healthier and become more active. Fitness assessments will be used to determine such things as blood pressure, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, and endurance to establish an individual fitness program.
The Auburn University Public Relations Committee of Alabama (AUPRCA) has been chosen to promote this event and has been working on it since September.
Evyan Mischke, vice president of projects for AUPRCA feels that this program will be very beneficial to the Auburn campus. “Getting fit and staying active is a goal for many people, but it’s hard to stay motivated with the lifestyle of a college student. I think this program is a great idea and we have had fun working on it.
A grand prize of $500 will go to the winning team who as a pair reach their goal and win the drawing.
Along with the program, a newsletters and fact sheets will be sent out to participants to keep motivation high. In the newsletter, there will be such topics as healthy eating, exercise, useful tips to stay on track, photos and quotes.
Students will do a standard, one-hour fitness test provided by the Student Activities Center at both the beginning and end of the program. Each participant will have a goal set for him or her for the 12-week “get fit period. Both group members must reach their goal in order to be eligible for the prize.
All participants must be 18 or over, student at Auburn University, keep an exercise log and be interested in getting fit and being healthy. The second phase of the fitness tests will take place on April 23-27, 2007 to determine if each individual met their goal or not. On April 30, 2007, $500 and other prizes will be awarded to the winning team of the Lifetime Wellness & Fitness Challenge 2007.
