Auburn Student Examines A Future in Medicine
Ginny Fuller graduated from Lee-Scott Academy in 2003 with the luxury of choosing between Auburn University, the University of Alabama, Emory and Vanderbilt. She was offered full scholarships at Auburn and Alabama. But this Auburn native’s roots grew deep, and she chose to attend Auburn University. Ginny has always thought she wanted to be a doctor, and she chose to major in Pre-Med. That was four years ago, and now Ginny is preparing to graduate in May. She has applied to medical school, and soon she will begin an interview process.
Ginny always played with the idea of becoming a doctor, even as a child. She job-shadowed behind doctors in high school, and the medical field became even more of an interest to her. Now with graduation around the corner, the idea that was once a childhood dream is becoming a reality.
Ginny has applied to two medical schools, University of South Alabama and University of Alabama in Birmingham. Ginny began the application process last summer, and she hopes to be accepted in time to begin classes this upcoming fall semester. The acceptance process for medical school is extensive, and it requires an application round and an interview round before a student is accepted.
Ginny interviews at UAB this week, and she is hoping for good news. She hopes to hear from one of the two schools by April, so that she can begin preparing for the next chapter of her education, the chapter that will bring her closer to her dream of becoming a doctor.
Ginny hopes to become a dermatologist, but she has an interest in family medicine too. She is not quite sure where she wants to practice medicine yet. She will wait to see where she is accepted to medical school and where she completes her residency program, but practicing medicine in Auburn is an option she is definitely considering. Although Ginny’s career path is still unfolding, one thing is for sure–this Auburn University student’s path will lead to success. The same drive, dedication and focus that helped Ginny to get this far at Auburn University will help her to excel at medical school. It won’t be long before the name Virginia Fuller is punctuated with “M.D.”
