Doug Van Wie :: Auburn Swim Team

Doug Van Wie graduated from Auburn University in May in graphic design.

Van Wie is from Charlotte, NC and decided to come to Auburn because of their renown swimming program. He has swum competitively since he was young and continues to do so. Although he completed his eligibility at Auburn in 2006, he continues to train with the Tigers and compete in meets nationally and internationally.

Being a part of four NCAA championships during his eligibility, Van Wie finished his college career, along with the other three seniors, having never lost a single meet. He was co-captain of the championship team in 2006. Van Wie was also a part of the 200 medley relay that set the world’s best time at the NCAA Championship in 2004.

Although he has many memories at Auburn, his fondest memory of Auburn is rolling Toomer’s Corner after their victory his senior year in 2006.

At the end of July, Van Wie will travel to Thailand to represent the USA at the World University Games. He will likely be competing in the Individual Medley and the Backstroke.

After he returns from Thailand, he will return to Charlotte and swim on former swim coach, David Marsh’s, club team. He plans to spend the next year preparing to compete in the trials for the 2008 Olympic Games, which will be held in Beijing.
