Student Alumni Association Serves Boiled Shrimp
Fried chicken and barbeque may be two delicious southern dishes in Auburn, but one of the most satisfying meals for the southern taste bud is boiled shrimp.
Each year, Auburn University’s Student Alumni Association indulges in this satisfying southern tradition and hosts the Low Country Shrimp Boil for its members. The Student Alumni Association wanted an opportunity to gather its members and celebrate the start of Auburn’s football season, and a southern shrimp boil was the perfect solution.
This year the Student Alumni Association will host its sixth annual Low Country Shrimp Boil. Auburn students and alumni alike always look forward to enjoying delicious boiled shrimp, good conversation with fellow Auburn friends and family, and listening to live music. This year, SAA will feature the local band CrossRoad, at the event. The Low Country Shrimp Boil has been successful every year and is one of the many events the Student Alumni Association hosts for its members.
At the shrimp boil, members will be served all-you-can-eat shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes. The event will be set up much like a tailgate and be held at the site of the Auburn Alumni Association hospitality tent next to Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The Auburn Student Alumni Association (SAA) was established in 1999, as the student chapter of the national Auburn Alumni Association. Originally envisioned as a means to bridge the gap between students and alumni, the SAA has grown and developed into Auburn’s largest campus organization with 2,700 active members.
Students are encouraged to join SAA year round and the process of doing so is very simple. The application is short, and only requires basic contact information. Students can obtain an application at the Alumni Center or apply using the online form or the downloadable PDF form. The cost to join is $20 for a one year membership, or $70 for a four year membership. This may seem an unusually high cost for student membership, but the benefits of joining the Student Alumni Association are priceless.
First, one of the benefits is the opportunity to attend the Low Country Shrimp Boil for no admittance fee. Non SAA members must pay $10 for tickets to the shrimp boil. Another benefit to SAA membership, and probably the most popular, is receiving the SAA membership card. The membership card allows SAA members to receive discounts at local merchants in Auburn. Such merchants include Coldstones Creamery, Panera Bread Company, the Auburn University Bookstore, and many others. SAA members also receive a t-shirt and car decal upon receiving the membership card. SAA members also have free admittance to the Auburn Alumni Association hospitality tent prior to every Auburn home football game.
If tons of discounts around Auburn, free tailgating on gameday, and the opportunity to meet other SAA members is not reason enough to join the Student Alumni Association, than the Low Country Shrimp Boil should be a convincing and satisfying reason. Come out to this yearly event and enjoy delicious boiled shrimp and great company, and take a deeper look into the benefits of joining the Student Alumni Association.
