Tiger/Cub Reporting Program

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is quoted for saying, “Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?â€? Well Auburn University does do a lot for others through various organizations, but one special program has evolved from the department of communication and journalism.

Dr. Jessica Armstrong’s feature writing classes have begun a mentoring program called “Tiger/Cub Reporter Program with Lochapoka High School. Her students, the “tigers, are paired up with a high school student, the “cub, and their primary task is to help the “cubs produce an article for their school newspaper, The Arrowhead.

The students meet for one hour each week as well as communicate by email if needed. The program is still new but is definitely proving to be worthwhile. “So far it has been very successful for both groups of students, says Armstrong. “The best way to learn something is to teach it to someone else.
