James Mantooth is Climbing the Professional Ladder One Position at a Time
J
ames Mantooth, the new Director of Student Development Programs, is one of the university’s most valuable employees. He has been working for Auburn since the fall of 2000 and has so far held three positions, all dealing with various student organizations and programs.
As Director of Student Development Programs, Mantooth oversees the paper work for all student activity projects, although he has become more involved with UPC and SGA, two of the larger campus organizations. Mantooth is glad his new position has more of an administrative nature when comparing it to previous positions he has held at the university. He is thrilled about the opportunity to work from the administrative side of the university because it is the type of path he would like his career to take in the future.
While holding the position of Assistant Director of Orientation Programs in the Freshman Year Experience Office for five years, Mantooth was constantly working with students. He can relate well to younger individuals and enjoys the time he does spend interacting with them. Now in his new position, the majority of his time at work is not spent dealing with the students. Despite this fact, Mantooth has found a good way to still remain in contact with the young people on campus by being the advisor to the campus service organization IMPACT.
Mantooth has so far been a valuable asset to the university. As long as he maintains his positive attitude, strong motivation and continues to generate a praiseworthy performance, he will have no choice but to excel in his new position.
