Erin Hollon :: Senior in Communication Disorders
Erin Hollon, a senior at Auburn University, is majoring in communication disorders. She says that Auburn has prepared her for the work force because of the experience she has gotten through the program. She is thankful that, as a student, she has gotten to work with real clients and real patients. She has also gotten to volunteer in several communities.
Communication disorders has two fields of study, speech pathology and audiology, both of which the students gain valuable experience. Erin found inspiration through her major when she had the opportunity to volunteer at the Special Olympics. The students practiced audiology on the athletes. Because of the program, Erin also is able to practice speech pathology with clients every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The students benefit from having these opportunities so that they can make an informed decision about graduate school. Many students majoring in communication disorders go on to graduate school and pursue either speech pathology or audiology. This experience enables them to make an informed decision.
Erin is still unsure of which field she plans to pursue because she has fallen in love with them both. She will, however, be making her decision before December.
