Tiger-Cub Program
Jasmine Callaway is a senior at Loachapoka High School. She is the co-editor for the school’s newspaper, The Arrowhead, and she is also highly involved in the Tiger-Cub program.
The Tiger-Cub program is designed to pair an Auburn University student in Feature Writing with a high school student who is on Loachapoka High School’s newspaper staff. The college students (Tigers) visit their high school students (Cubs) once a week to help them brainstorm ideas for their stories, help in writing those stories and then edit their final drafts.
This program is a great way to motivate these high schools students to get involved. It not only challenges them to be dedicated to extracurricular activities, but it also prepares them for their future college work load.
The Auburn University journalism department prides itself in being a part of the Tiger-Cub program and it hopes to encourage these high school students to strive academically.
