Managing Money
In today’s high-class society, there are many pressures that make people want to spend money. Pressures such as the latest fashion, eating habits, what to drive and where to live all create a dent in our budget if we choose to make those purchases.
For most college students, it’s all about making an impression. What you wear or what you own can often say a lot about you. In order to impress friends and to be a part of groups, many students go into financial debt just to prove a point.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. decided to help fellow students by setting up a financial forum on Thursday night, October 11.
Information at the forum includes the dos and don’ts of finance. There were also helpful hints for students to follow.
Many hints included keeping track of your money.
Once you realize how much impulse buying and other indulgences cost you, it will be easier to tell yourself “no. Also, you need to be frugal. Going to events such as the movies, riding the bus, or even ordering pizza may cost less if you show your student I.D. Check travel fares for student discounts when you need to travel by air.
Also, don’t give anyone your social security number, bank account numbers or credit card. You pin number is also a sacred tool.
Use only major credit cards sparingly, and when you use a card to try pay it off in a fast manner.
As for tips on dept, keep track of your money. Know what bills you have to pay, and what you have extra that you can spend. You may also want to keep records of purchases and bill payments. Also, keeping track of bank statements are really helpful.
If you follow these rules, you will be able to leave college debt free. You may want to be a part of the end crowd, but know that sometimes what’s in may not be what’s best for you!
