Jim Gaffigan’s Stand-Up Comedy Show for AU Students
This past Tuesday, October 16 at the Student Activities Center UPC brought famous comedian Jim Gaffigan to perform for Auburn University students. The show was a hit, with 2,250 tickets selling out by Monday morning.
Jim Gaffigan is one of the most popular touring comedians in the U.S. He has made numerous appearances on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman and NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He also has a recent one hour Comedy Central Special, and CD and DVD named, “Beyond the Pale.
He has developed a sitcom, Welcome To New York, on CBS, had a recurring role on That 70’s Show as Ed, and several other TV appearances. On film he has played several roles, including Super Troopers, 13 Going on 30, Igby Goes Down and many more. He also has independent movie and commercial endeavors. Beyond this Gaffigan also has a series of animated shorts, Pale Force, that appear Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
“The event itself was probably my favorite out of all the UPC events of which I have been a part. It was the result of practically a year’s worth of planning. I am really proud of the SAC committee. All of the times I felt completely overwhelmed and stressed out were worth seeing the auditorium packed with laughing students laughing about cake and hot pockets, said Emily Chappell Director of Speakers and Comedians for UPC.
“The show was a success we had a great turnout. Students have been talking about how much they enjoyed the show all day. I only wish we could have accommodated more people, said Meredith Craig Assistant Director for Speakers and Comedians, the committee that brought this event.
Jim Gaffigan’s stand-up show was hilarious and the room was filled with laughter. The show included a variety of jokes ranging from laziness to numerous foods including hot pockets and bacon. “The show was hysterically delicious. He did his famous hot pockets joke and I was laughing so hard it made me cry, said Bebe Battles, a student who attended the event.
The show catered to a diverse crowd of students. While not all students were able to attend due to limited tickets and seating, those who did enjoyed his witty banter and humorous demeanor.
The show also came equipped with a sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired. Gaffigan interacted with and incorporated him throughout the show, referring to him as his “over protective dad who goes everywhere with him. “Personally my favorite part of the show was how Jim Gaffigan interacted with the interpreter, what could have been awkward was incorporated beautifully into the show, said Meredith Craig.
“Jim was just as funny off-stage as he was during his performance, and it seems like such a natural part of his personality. He strikes me as someone that just happened to become famous for being himself, said Emily Chappell.
“He is exceedingly hilarious for a pale man. I loved his encore, said Lauren Jones another student at the event. After the show Gaffigan stuck around to meet and greet all the eager students. Taking silly pictures and signing autographs Gaffigan brought in an exceedingly long line of fans. Jim Gaffigan was a knockout and will be talked about among students for years to come.
