The Pumpkin Carve
Carving pumpkins has been a tradition around Halloween for years. People love to show their artistic side by carving or painting a design on a pumpkin.
The College of Architecture Design & Construction (CADC) will hold its 19th annual Pumpkin Carve on Friday, Oct. 26, 2007. The event is sponsored by The American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). The pumpkins will be available for $4 beginning at 9 a.m. in the courtyard of Dudley Hall.
More than 400 pumpkins will be judged this year. The pumpkin carving will end at 5 p.m. and the pumpkins will be illuminated. Kids will be able to get their face painted and there will be food for sale. At 6 p.m., there will be a children’s costume contest and they can take their picture with Aubie. The CADC students will have their pumpkins judged at 6:30 p.m. and the awards will be presented at 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to come and view the pumpkins until 8 p.m.
The Pumpkin Carve is featured in the October issue of Southern Living magazine.
In the October 2007 issue of Southern Living magazine, Robert Martin said, “Apart from the overall camaraderie and anticipation, the event performs another important role: bringing the college and townspeople together. Dan Bennett, dean of CADC said, “It showcases the outstanding creativity of our students while providing a safe and exciting venue for families to celebrate and enjoy the evening.
The winning pumpkins receive gift certificates, art supplies or books donated by merchants.
