Auburn University Singers Fall Retreat 2007

The Auburn University Singers spent their 36th annual fall retreat at Camp ASCCA (Alabama Special Camp for Children and Adults) this past weekend.  The group spends a weekend away together every year to learn most of the songs that they will perform that year, and most importantly, to get to know one another better. The weekend then concludes on Sunday afternoon with a performance of everything they learned in the previous 48 hours.

The group arrived on Friday afternoon, ate dinner, and got straight to work choreographing, learning, and cleaning two high energy songs before bedtime at 12 am: “Everybody Rejoice from the musical The Wiz and “Dancing in the Street.

The next morning they awoke at 7 am and began rehearsal shortly after breakfast. They worked straight through the afternoon learning the rest of their repertoire and then stopped at 6 pm to watch the Auburn vs. Arkansas game at a local restaurant. After the game, the Singers returned to the camp and performed a talent show for each other with talents including an “interpretive dance, quartets, renditions of Barry Manilow, and many more entertaining acts. Most of the group then stayed awake rehearsing until 1:30 in the morning to ensure perfection the next day.

On Sunday, the group spent the morning reviewing everything they learned and then got ready for their performance at 1 pm. There were around thirty parents and friends in the audience for the performance, and the Singers received a standing ovation at the end of the show. For the first time in Singers history they performed a total of eight songs, rather than the typical six, and attendees said it was the best show they had seen in years.

This year looks to be one of the most promising in AU Singers history and you can expect great things from them this year. Their Fall Show will be December 2nd at 2:30 and 6 pm and December 4th at 6 pm and 8 pm.
