A Knee-Slapping Event
So you think you’re funny? University Program Council (UPC) is calling all students to apply to participate in their annual stand-up comedy show, Last Comic Standing. UPC’s Last Comic Standing has been a favorite among Auburn students for years.
“It’s always great to see other students putting themselves out there on stage. I wouldn’t have the guts to perform a stand-up routine in front of my peers! said Emily Chappell Director of Speakers and Comedians for UPC.
It is a chance for ambitious comedians to show their talent. UPC’s Last comic standing gives novice comedians the opportunity to test the waters with improv and stand-up comedy in front of fellow students. This event is also open to the public, providing comedic entertainment for students on Auburn’s campus.
I love Last Comic Standing because it’s great to see your peers show off their talents. Plus, it’s perfect time to take a study break, said student Brett Pohlman.
Applications are available now in Foy 316 and due by 7:00 pm on Friday, October 26. There is a mandatory audition for all applicants on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 pm in the UPC office. Your audition act should last no longer than five minutes. Once passed through the preliminary round acts for the actual show must be no longer than eight minutes and include no material that may be deemed offensive to the students, faculty, administration or staff of Auburn University. There are cash prizes for the top three winners of Last Comic Standing.
“Last comic standing is an event that UPC likes to put on because we know that it allows students to show off their talents outside of the classroom, said Virginia Dawson President of UPC.
Last Comic Standing is also available for non performing students seeking to laugh the night away. UPC encourages all students who like to laugh to come and enjoy this free event. This hilariously entertaining event is Thursday, November 1 at 7:00 pm in the Foy Ballroom.
Last Comic Standing has continued to bring large crowds throughout the years. It is always a surprise because you never know what the comedians are going to say or do. One of many examples occurred during last years Last Comic Standing, when the winner came on stage to accept his prize in a Speedo and covered in baby oil. You never know what to expect, so come and join the laughs next week, and see what the excitement is all about.
“I’m really about this event because I’m new to Auburn and have seen something like this before, Ashley Schaid, a student at Auburn said.
“I can’t wait for Last Comic Standing, I’ve never been before but I’ve heard the performers are hilarious, student Lindsey Pipkin said.
