Auburn University Gospel Choir

Who would have thought that you could get college credit for singing? And I’m not talking a music or theater major. I’m talking about a PR student receiving elective credit hours for Gospel Choir.

But, don’t let me fool you into thinking that it’s just an easy class to throw into your scedule so you can be classified as a full-time student.

For Kacy Eoff, a senior in public relations, Gospel Choir has been a wonderful, yet challening experience for the last two years. According to Eoff, you have to audition in order to be a member.

“It has been my favorite class at Auburn so far,” says Eoff.

The Auburn University Gospel Choir only puts on a few shows every year. This semester, the Gospel Choir participated in Sounds of Auburn with the AU Marching Band, the Auburn Orchestra, the AU Singers and the Concert Choir. It was a big event to bring all the musical groups at Auburn together to perform.

Just last week, the choir performed at St. Luke’s Church in Opelika with the University of Alabama Gospel Choir. Eoff describes the event as more of a worship service at the chruch than anything else.

Eoff also highlights the aspects of the Gospel Choir in that they are constantly giving back to others. The choir recently traveled to a nearby nursing home to perform for the elderly. After the performance, the elderly folks were asked to come up and join the choir. The choir teacher walked the elderly through the song and the choir’s experience ended that day with the residents of the nursing home accompanying them in singing “Oh Happy Day.”

What better way is there to gain two credit hours each semester for being a member of the Auburn University Gospel Choir?
