World Usability Day at AU
The Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA) has announced that World Usability Day will be November 8 this year. Auburn University’s Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering Department will host an event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on that day. The university community is invited to attend.
According to the official web site,World Usability Day was founded in 2005 in order to increase public awareness of the need to make products and services important to human life easier to access and simpler to use. The day addresses global issues such as education, government and this year, healthcare.
Founder and director of World Usability Day, Elizabeth Rosenzweig explains the importance of usability in healthcare. “Whether it’s new medical devices or technologies; drug research, approval or delivery; patient forms or medical record sharing; emergency disaster planning or increasing the functionality of hospitals and everyday healthcare delivery, everyone is effected in some way by the intersection of usability and healthcare.”
Last year UPA coordinated more than 225 events in 175 cities and 35 countries for a total of more than 40,000 participants.
