Student Works with Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind
Claire Dunn is senior at Auburn majoring in Early Childhood Special Education. She is currently doing her student teaching and getting hands-on experience in her field of study.
For her student teaching program, Claire is working with the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. She helps with newborns to 3-year-olds every week.
Each week, Claire has three play group sessions with the children, as well as two home visits. During play group, Claire gets to lead the children through various games and activities. Home visits are conducted to talk with a child and his or her parents to see how the child is doing at play group, as well as how the child is doing in the home.
Claire says, “The home visits are great because I actually get to talk not only with the children, but with their parents to learn about the progress they are making throughtout their everyday life.”
