The Impact of an Assignment

Collecting quotes was very inspirational for me. I learned more about the text. I also received the ability to express my views on how different quotes made me feel. I enjoy the opportunity of being able to express my thoughts on situations within different works. I also didn’t realize how I really felt about a certain passage until I actually sat down and deeply thought about it.

I learned that my creativity is at its best when I have the ability to give my personal evaluation about a subject. I couldn’t believe the emotion I felt from my collected quotes. I also didn’t realize how much I could relate to certain authors.

The main theme that I notice within the different stories was the theme of emotional actions. Many of the stories seem either let emotion determine the actions the characters, or there were many expressions of emotions. I feel that it’s ok to think logically about a person or circumstance; however, I believe that emotions allow the real truth to come out of individuals. I feel that if an emotion is strong enough, an individual will not be able to hide it. I also believe that the emotions within the stories help readers become more connected with the story and the author. The emotions from the story allowed me to evaluate my thoughts, agendas, and characteristics.

For me the value of literature is the ability to open the mind. It combines reality with fiction. There is realism that ads fact to the story, such as culture of marrying young girls The Tale of Genji. However, the emotion caused by Genji disrupting the hearts of many women allowed me to receive the full experience of how each party felt about his actions, including Genji himself. The Tale of Genji really stimulated my mind because I could relate to the broken hearts of each woman that Genji was with. At one point, I have felt similar emotions. This story was my favorite. Because I could relate so much to the tale, I was able to write a paper that I felt from my heart. My emotions came out in my writing.

The words within a literature passage gave the story character. I feel that the frequent use of ancient words is next to non-existent in today’s society, but these words still have a powerful meaning. They are also greatly appreciated when we refer to different works of literature that have the constant use of “ancient” speech.

I personally have enjoyed the way the quote collections stimulated my mind. I received the opportunity to think critically, and add my own input. By voicing my thoughts, the task to write about a certain quote was not hard at all. I prefer to discuss quotes and passages that deal with real life circumstances that I can relate too. However, I can still relate to other passages once they are explained in class.
