UPC Conducts Focus Groups to Hear What Students Want
UPC is conducting Focus Groups to gain a better understanding of the entertainment that students want on campus. The Research and Evaluation committee has teamed up with the Major Entertainment Committee to conduct UPC’s first set of focus groups.
“The focus groups are integral in the development of our events. We want to get different perspectives and opinions from all on campus in order to program events,” said Chris Hornbuckle UPC’s Assistant Director of Research and Evaluation.
The focus groups will be held this Thursday, November 8 at 7:00 PM and next Wednesday, November 14 at 7:15 PM. The first focus group on, November 8, is closed. This focus group is used to get information and opinions from a variety of campus organizations.
The second focus group, on November 14, is open to any student. Any student wishing to participate should email Ryan Larson, the Director of Research and Evaluation, at larsorc@auburn.edu. There are a limited number of seats to ensure that UPC can accurately record student responses.
Focus groups are a great way to gain information from an unbiased group, Ryan Larson said. UPC is using these focus groups as an additional attempt to get a more comprehensive view of student’s opinions. Research and Evaluation also conducts surveys throughout the year to gain an understanding of the types of events, specifications, artists, etc that students want to see on campus.
UPC conducts a variety of surveys. Research and Evaluation designs a specific survey that is given to all incoming freshman at Camp War Eagle. They also put together various surveys throughout the year that have questions compiled from all the committees on UPC. Their purpose is to gain a better understanding of how to publicize and the types of programming students will attend.
The surveys are generally given out at UPC events and on the concourse The surveys are taken on PDA’s that allows students to quickly and easily complete the survey.
“Focus groups will allow a variety of students speak to us on a closer basis, said Lindsey Pipkin another Assistant Director of Research and Evaluation.
This particular set of Focus Groups concentrates on UPC’s main concerts. They want to hear students’ opinions on music genres, artists, locations, if students are willing to pay for concerts etc. “These focus groups will be a way for students to come and give us their views about the concerts on campus,â€? said Michael Roeder UPC’s Director of Major Entertainment.
“We are really looking forward to hearing from the students. The focus groups will allow us to learn what students are thinking about UPC events and what kind of improvements we can make! Lindsey Pipkin said.
