Masters of Accountancy Student Serves as Graduate Teaching Assistant
Emily Guthrie is a fifth-year student at Auburn University. She is not here for an additional year because she took her time getting through undergrad. She is utilizing the MAC program that Auburn offers.
The MAC program, or Masters of Accountancy, goes one full year. Guthrie began in August and will continue here until August 2008. She then plans to go work for Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Atlanta, where she interned this summer.
“It’s different being here for grad school than undergrad,” said Guthrie, who went from having hours of extracurricular activities a day to now pouring her spare time into studying. As a past member of War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen, ODK, Mortar Board, Cater Society, Beta Alpha Psi and more, she worked hard to maintain a high GPA to ensure her acceptance to the MAC program at Auburn.
To help buffer the cost of a fifth year of out-of-state tuition, this Tennessee native works at Lowder in between classes. Guthrie is a graduate teaching assistant, or GTA, to Dr. Lawrence. She works 10 hours a week and additionally as needed.
“It’s been a pleasure working for him,” said Guthrie. She will continue her role as GTA through the completion of her graduate school.
