Building Science Students Excited About New Grant

T

he Building Science majors at Auburn University are pleased with the endowment the school received from Bailey-Harris Construction company. The Endowment of $150,000 will establish a presidential scholarship. This endowment follows previous gifts by Bailey-Harris towards a presidential scholarship. This is part of the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction’s “It Begins at Auburn” campaign, whose goal is $20 million. The campaign has been more than successful, raising over $23 million.

“This is a great gift to the college,” building science major Richard Jones said. “The reason this is so cool is because this company was started in Auburn by Auburn graduates. So, it shows how successful we can be after we graduate. Also, it is good that they are starting a scholarship so that some students can be rewarded for hard work.”

Bailey-Harris Construction was founded in 1979 in Auburn by Auburn graduates Jack Bailey and Allen Harris. The company has always remained close to Auburn University, through donations and services.

“This could not say more for the CADC,” building science major Steven Bishop said. “I mean, this shows the loyalty the alumni have to this university and it just makes us proud to be getting this degree here at Auburn.”

Auburn’s “It Begins in Auburn” campaign does not only focus on the CADC. It encompasses all schools and colleges, as well as AU Montgomery. It also focuses on athletics.

Auburn’s tradition of alumni loyalty is one of the things that make this university so special. One of the reasons I chose to come to school here is because of how much this university made you feel like a family.
