Tis The Season
It’s time to deck the halls with boughs of holly, or Samford Lawn in this case. It is about that time to spread the holiday cheer on the plains. The Holiday Celebration is an Auburn Tradition. This year it will be held on Thursday, November 29 from 6:30-8:30 on Samford Lawn.
The Holiday Celebration is a great opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and the Auburn community to come together and bring in the holiday season. This event includes a brief program and then the lighting of the tree on Samford Lawn.
“I love seeing the tree light up, so it is always fun to work this event. It is great to see the community and university come together, said Emily Chappell a Director on UPC.
The celebration follows the City of Auburn Christmas Parade that takes place in downtown Auburn at 5:30 PM. The program includes a performance by the AU concert choir, a children’s moment, and a few speakers. A peace candle lighting will conclude the program upon lighting the tree.
“I am excited about being a part of the program this year. I have always attended this event but never had the chance to be a part of it. I am excited about being able to be a part of this tradition, says Virginia Dawson, UPC president.
Festivities will also include treats for those who attend. There will be an assortment of Christmas cookies, desserts, hot chocolate, hot cider, and coffee. Guests are asked to bring unwrapped toys to donate for Toys for Tots. There will be a box to collect them near the Christmas tree on Samford Lawn.
“The food is the best part about the Holiday Celebration, I think I ate like 10 cookies last year, but they were delicious! Joey Libera a student at Auburn University.
“The Holiday Celebration is one of my favorite Auburn traditions. It is a nice way to begin the season and the tree looks beautiful on Samford Lawn, said Kathryn Carmichael a student at Auburn University.
This event is sponsored by the Office of the President, Student Government Association, and University Program Council. They invite all to celebrate the holiday season and enjoy this pastime of Auburn University.
