LifeSavers Ministries

Beginning with a few faithful Christ followers picking up trash in the poorest areas of Opelika, LifeSavers Ministries has evolved greatly over the years. This need based ministry seeks to reach the weakest and forgotten children from the roughest parts of this area. Staff members seek to stand by the scripture from Proverbs 22:6; “Teach a child to choose the right path and when he is older he will remain upon it. By giving each child the time, attention, respect, and commitment they deserve, LifeSavers yearns to empower the young in order to better their future.

With seven different ways to reach the children, LifeSavers has impacted and will continue to impact generations to come. Saturday Sunday School is a program in which buses enter neighborhoods every Saturday morning and take children of all ages to their facility. Here, children take part in worship services as well as life changing lessons, games and puppet shows.
Love Birds takes place every Thanksgiving. Donations go to provide each child’s family with a pre-cooked turkey breast along with a letter of thanks.
The ANDWON program picks up where Saturday School leaves off. When the children turn thirteen, they then begin participating in the youth program on Wednesdays. Rather than focusing on building numbers, this programs centers on building young people.
The annual Christmas Celebration is often the children’s only chance to celebrate Christmas. Sparkling lights, a huge Christmas tree, tons of wrapped gifts, and holiday songs are all part of this tradition, helping bring in the Christmas Spirit. After each child has received a gift, staff members share the greatest Christmas story with everyone. The Mission Thrift Store provides a place for families to shop for clothes, furniture, and household goods at an inexpensive price. In addition, all of the proceeds go to help fund LifeSavers and other ministries in the area.
As Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. LifeSavers staff uses this quote to show the importance of sharpening the children’s education through providing supplies. This BackPack project takes donations in which they use to purchase school supplies for children in the area. By equipping them with the tools they need to succeed, the staff believes it will make it easier to the children to stay in school.
Finally, the after school program opens the doors every Tuesday and Thursday to students in grades third through fifth. During this time, the children are taught to excel in areas they never thought possible.
