The New DRL

Gary Hawkins is an information technology specialist in the library’s Digital Resource Laboratory and is excited about it’s massive expansion.

The DRL is being expanded to offer its services to many more students at the same time. They will continue to offer the software packages that other computer labs might not have along with the highest grade printers on campus.

Multimedia Specialist keeps AU home page up and running

Brock Parker is a multimedia specialist for Auburn University’s Office of Communications. As a multimedia specialist in the Office of Communications and Marketing, Parker manages the content for the Auburn University home page and many of the University’s second and third tier pages. He also works closely with the Office of Information Technology to ensure quality Web-based communications and that the Auburn site is resourceful and easy to navigate.

In the following interview, Parker discusses his favorite aspect of his job and also explains some of the projects he is currently working on for Auburn University.

From Learning To Teaching Inside A Classroom

For most college students still in school, going to class is part of a daily routine.  Learning the necessary material in a classroom to graduate is still in the curriculum.  Lucy Gillespie shares this routine, but in a different way.  She gets up every morning to head to class, but instead of a backpack she brings her lesson plan.Gillespie is currently teaching an eighth grade pre- algebra class as part of her required internship for her teaching degree.  In this video she talks briefly about her routine and the final items needed for a completed portfolio due at the end of the term.

Bootcamp Trains Students on Social Media

Laura Murray, a senior in public relations at Auburn University, went to UGA on Saturday, March 1, 2008, to learn more about social media.

The conference was open to students of all levels in public relations or related fields. While there were mostly students from UGA, many Auburn students attended the event.

The students were divided into teams and worked on a campaign for various clients to get practical experience. These type of events are great ways for students to know what to expect once they enter the workforce.

Edelman Digital Bootcamp Survivor Tells All

Edelman PR Firm has proved to be more than just a business.  Now with the launch of its first ever Digital Bootcamp, held at the University of Georgia, students will receive hands-on training and advice from Edelman experts.  The first bootcamp was held on Saturday, March 1 and included students from Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Kennasaw State.  Caroline Ratcliff, a senior majoring in Public Relations, attended the bootcamp.  In this video she talks about her experience and the new things she learned.
