AU Swim and Dive Wins SEC’s Once Again!

This past weekend the Auburn Swim and Dive teams won the Southeastern Conference Championship at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. For the senior men, this was their fourth time and it marked twelve straight years of winning SEC’s. In the video below, Scott Goodrich talks about his last SEC win.

More Than Football

At Auburn University, we put a lot of emphasis on football. That’s not necessarily a problem; I love football as much as the next person. I would, however, like to encourage you to pay a little more attention to the other sports Auburn this spring. (more…)

Cliff Hare Award

Each year, an Auburn man and woman are selected out of a highly talented pool to receive the highest honors awarded to a student-athlete. At last year’s homecoming festivities, the Cliff Hare Award was presented. This award honors outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves both in the Southeastern Conference and on a national scale.

The Cliff Hare award is given in memory of Clifford Leroy Hare, a member of Auburn’s first football team, professor of chemistry, president of the Southern Conference and longtime chairman of Auburn’s Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics. Specifically, he believed that “athletics make men strong, study makes men wise, and character makes them great.�

Champions Both In and Out of the Pool

What do National Champions do in their free time? The Auburn University Swim and Dive National Championship team walks for a cure for cancer. On April 17, 2007 the team and the Tiger Splashers, Auburn University Swim and Dive team hostesses, participated in Relay for Life and won the Spirit of Relay award.

The groups participated in Relay for Life in memory of Coach Ralph Crocker, who passed away in January at the age of 52 after a long illness. Coach Crocker was an Auburn University graduate and had been coaching the swim team since 1999. However, he was never just a coach; he was a friend, father figure, and mentor.

The night of Relay for Life, the Tiger Splashers and the team displayed signs on a tent and wore shirts and buttons with the words RHOP in bold letters. RHOP stands for Ralph’s House of Pain, an intense workout he used on the distance swimmers in practice.
