Auburn Grad Discusses the “Real World”

W

hile in college, students focus and work so hard for four years, trying to get to a diploma, but many, stop to actually think about what’s next. Class becomes a daily routine, and it is scary to think about life after graduation in the “Real World.”

Kyle Abbey, a 2007 graduate of Auburn University, shares his experiences thus far. After graduating with a degree in building science, Kyle is now employed with Gray C. Wyatt in Birmingham, Alabama. He has had the opportunity to work on many projects, as well as travel around the state.

Watch my video interview with Kyle. He talks about life after college and being a part of the working world. Please don’t be confused, as one of his friends posed as the interviewer because I lost my voice!

ABC’s First Chili Cook-Off

Jessica Flowers is a junior in Building Science.  She is the treasurer of the Associated Builders and Contractors.  The ABC is hosting the first chili cook-off.  It will be held this Friday in Birmingham, Ala.

Pyramids, Cathedrals, Temples Oh My

Auburn University senior, Katie Hume, is traveling this summer with the McWhorter School of Building Science International Study Abroad Program.

The study abroad program travels to Egypt, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France and England. There they will study alternative construction methods, management systems and the history of old buildings.

“It Begins at Auburn” Gets a Boost

O n February 3, 2006, Auburn University launched a campaign to raise scholarship money for its nearly 25,000 students. “It begins at Auburn,� is the largest fundraiser ever started at Auburn University with an initial goal of $500 million. In July 2007, Auburn University surpassed this goal, nine months before expected.

Recently, Bailey-Harris Construction Company made an endowment of $250,000 to the Department of Building Science in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. CADC has raised nearly $23 million alone despite its original goal of $20 million. The endowment was established for a presidential scholarship.

Matthew Smith: Building His Future at Auburn

If you’ve ever known an Auburn architecture student or walked through the halls of Dudley Hall, you know why Auburn University has one of the most respected architecture programs in the country. The walls are covered with amazing artwork and designs created by students who have spent countless hours in the studio bringing their visions to life.

Matthew Smith is a fourth year architecture student trying to balance his social life with his demanding academic schedule. His passion for architecture is evident in this interview as well as his work. In the video Matthew talks about why he chose architecture, what it’s like to be an architecture student at Auburn and what he would like to do after he graduates.
