For this week’s interview, I chose Mrs. Mary Jonhnson of Montgomery, Alabama. She graduated from Auburn University in December of 2001 with a degree in elementary education. She is now a stay-at-home mom to Porter, a beautiful 11 month old baby boy, who keeps her very entertained and busy. Before becoming a mom, she used her degree she obtained from Auburn and taught kindergarten and first grade at a number of different schools all over the state of Alabama. Some of the schools Mrs. Johnson has taught at are Warrior Academy, Crestline Elementary and St. James School. Listen as Mrs. Johnson shares with me the impact that Auburn had on her and her life.

Auburn Student Serves as National FFA Officer

Jennifer Himburg, a student at Auburn University majoring in Agricultural Communications, was recently selected as an officer to represent the National Future Farmers of America.  Her official title was National Southern Region Vice President.
She became interested with the organization when she was in high school.  She was president of her high school’s chapter when she was a senior, but never dreamed of becoming a national officer.
Having the honor of serving on the National FFA meant that Jennifer would have to take a year off from Auburn.  Once she found out that she was selected as National Southern Region Vice President, she finished her coursework in about three weeks.  She then began traveling with the organization and managed to visit 48 states, and even Japan.  While on the road, Jennifer also got to share her love of Auburn University with everyone she met.
Listen in on our interview as Jennifer reminisces about her experience as being selected as a national officer with the Future Farmers of America.

Auburn Grads Chosen as Alabama’s Outstanding Young Farm Family

Chris and Monica Carroll, both Auburn University graduates, were recently selected as the 2007 Outstanding Young Farm Family of Alabama. The couple was selected at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 86th Annual Meeting, which was held in December.
The Carroll’s own and operate a family farm that includes poultry, cattle, vegetables, and timber. In the fall, the Carroll’s are more famously known for their pumpkin patch and corn maze. Over 3,000 children of all ages visited the farm last year!
The Carroll’s have two children, Brittney, 7, and Blake, 6.
A unique quality that made the Carroll’s stand out from other farmers eligible for the award was the inspiration that they provide to others. Farming is very important to this family, but respecting and treating others in a kind manner is made evident in their day-to-day activities.
Listen in on my conversation with the Carroll’s as they talk about their farm and being chosen as the Outstanding Young Farm Family of Alabama.
