Thanksgiving Plans Altered By Iron Bowl

For many students at Auburn, the thanksgiving holiday will end sooner than normal this year. That is because the University of Alabama and Auburn will wage their annual battle the Saturday after thanksgiving this year. What’s Your Plan?

Auburn Sustainability Action Program (ASAP) wants to take your picture today on the concourse for their “What’s Your Plan?” campaign. The campaign is part of a national New Voters Project organized by student Public Interest Research Groups (PIRG).

Brittany Branyon, co-chair of ASAP, held the first day of photo shoots yesterday. The organization will also be out there today looking for more students interested in becoming involved in the campaign. Students will be posing for a photo with a “What’s Your Plan?” sign. The photos will be sent to presidential candidates and state representatives to urge them to address issues like global warming.

AU Recycles

Today more and more people are trying to be green and help the environment.  Auburn University is no exception. 

The Auburn University Facilities Division and Sustainability Initiative created The Auburn Recycling Program in 2005.  Their mission is to promote recycling, waste diversion and reuse.  They are also trying to decrease the amount of waste that is produced on campus.  As a result of decreasing campus waste it would reduce the waste in our local landfills. 

Auburn currently has five recycling programs: Deskside, Residential Life, Game Day, Sidewalk and Recycling Dumpster.

Through Subway, Bus and Train

Auburn University Students returned on Tuesday afternoon from the Power Shift conference held at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. The 19 students met with representatives of Alabama’s Congress members in Washington D.C. to discuss initiatives for the state’s environmental and energy policies.

The students were sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts, Dean of Students and Natural Resources Management and Development Institute. They left on a chartered bus to Atlanta at 5 p.m. November 2 and arrived on an Amtrak train the following morning at 10:30 a.m. in Washington D.C.
