Cary Hall Receives Historic Marker

Charles Allen Cary was Auburn Universities first veterinary dean.   He has a building and a medical library on the AU campus named in his honor.  Friday at 3 p.m. a historic marker will be revealed in front of Cary Hall from officials from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Auburn Heritage Association.

 Cary started his career at Auburn in 1892 as a professor of veterinary science.  In 1907, he began the College of Veterinary Medicine.  This was the first vet school in the south.  He served the university as dean until he died in 1935.  (more…)

Invision Your PR Career

It is every public relations major’s dream job. One day public relations students will be clamoring for a position that many think is brimming with big money, high profile clients and a jet-setting lifestyle. Being an event planner, however, is far from these glamorous expectations.

Julie K. Bunkley, 26, is the owner of Invision, an event consulting company in Auburn. She graduated from Auburn in December 2003 with a degree in PR. She will have internship opportunities for those PR majors wanting to specialize in event planning and consulting.

“I feel a little weird that there are so many people that, apparently, want what I have. They want my job,� said Bunkley.

From Auburn to Abha

Dr. James Groccia, the director of Auburn University’s Biggio Center, has recently taken his education iniatives far from home.  Groccia has been working in Saudi Arabia to improve the higher education system throughout the country. (more…)

Auburn’s Spirit to Fly at Saturday’s Game

Spirit is a bald eagle that has been in the care of Auburn’s Southeastern Raptor Center for the past few years. On Saturday, it will fly in front of more than 87,000 fans to represent not only the spirit of Auburn, but something else. This week, Spirit will be flying to honor the conservation groups across the nation that have helped the bald eagle be removed from the endangered species list. (more…)

Communication Factors

Communication is the art of conveying information. How you choose to display your message with art is up to you.Communication has many important features. There are many ways to communicate. This includes the type of language chosen, the gestures made, and even the props use to relay or enhance a message. Some of the most important to me are the information source, the transmitter, the noise source, and the correct deliver to the destination or receiver. The information source is important because it will help the receiver to decide whether or not to take the given message seriously. For example, if a doctor told you that you had a fatal disease, you would more likely believe him. However, if a random person on the street told you that you contracted a disease, you may choose to think about the message and eventually ignore it.
