From Learning To Teaching Inside A Classroom

For most college students still in school, going to class is part of a daily routine.  Learning the necessary material in a classroom to graduate is still in the curriculum.  Lucy Gillespie shares this routine, but in a different way.  She gets up every morning to head to class, but instead of a backpack she brings her lesson plan.Gillespie is currently teaching an eighth grade pre- algebra class as part of her required internship for her teaching degree.  In this video she talks briefly about her routine and the final items needed for a completed portfolio due at the end of the term.

Practical Experience is Priceless

Christina Sarmir is a senior at Auburn University majoring in early education. Along with her classes this semester, Sarmir is also gaining practical experience. Sarmir goes to a local elementary school three times a week to do activities with the students.

She reads to the children, helps them with various projects and also does hands-on activities. She says everything they do needs to be “investigative”. The point of the activities she leads is to let children discover the answers and solutions for themselves.

Sarmir loves to work with children and says the best part is seeing how excited they become once they have discovered a solution. She knows that this experience is a great tool for her future career as a teacher. Classes are very important, but nothing can beat practical experience.
