This past weekend at the University of Georgia, a Digital Bootcamp was hosted by Edelman for future Pr pracitioners.   The basis of the conference was to teach the fundamentals of digital social media, and was a pretty big success.

History of the Auburn ‘War Eagle’ Fight Song

One of the most engaging aspects of the Auburn experience is the ceremonial singing of the Auburn ‘War Eagle’, which has been a school tradition since 1955.

The ‘War Eagle’ fight song was written by Robert Allen (composer) and Al Stillman (lyrics). Roy B. Sewell commissioned the song in 1953 as part of an attempt to motivate football coach ‘Shug’ Jordan’s up and coming football team. The thought behind the initiative was to usher in a new era of success for Auburn athletics’ by capturing the spirit of the Auburn fans through the Auburn fight song.

Officially the naming rights of the Auburn ‘War Eagle’ fight song jointly belong to Auburn University and the late Roy B. Sewell of the Sewell family. According to the Sewell family, Roy B. Sewell also helped compose the last few lines of lyrics, and the family still has the parchment roll with the handwritten changes along with the rights to the song in their possession.

Today, on behalf of the Sewell family heirs here is Harris Sewell Worley, a fourth generation Auburn Alumni and direct descendant of the Sewell family, with a direct account of the history of the Auburn ‘War Eagle’ fight song.

Auburn Internships In and Around Town

I

n and around town Auburn University students are participating in spring 2008 internship programs.

In order for some Auburn University students to obtain their undergraduate degrees, students are required to complete at least one professional internship. As part of the Auburn community’s commitment to the university, many local businesses offer a variety of student internship programs. The internships are very beneficial to participants and greatly appreciated by the students, parents and faculty.

Some of the benefits of local internships are students are able to develop time management skills by balancing the internship, classes and other activities. they also offer students the means to gain experience in a variety of various careers. For the students’ parents, they are able to save their parents a little money by fulfilling graduation requirements either early, or in less time than expected.

One example of a local internship is that of promising student Kelly McDevitt’s, a senior in public relations looking to graduate at the end of this semester. McDevitt, is the “electronic media intern” at the Auburn Alumni Center, and is very excited about her internship program. Here is what she had to say. . .
